How we review pet gear

Every guide answers the same practical questions, and tells you where each answer comes from.

The questions we answer for every product

  • Fit: which pets, sizes and homes it suits, and which it does not.
  • Real cost: the price plus subscriptions, filters, refills, batteries and replacement parts over a year.
  • Reliability basics: what happens without Wi-Fi or power, how alerts work, and what the warranty covers.
  • Everyday upkeep: cleaning, noise, app requirements and how long setup takes.
  • Safety notes: materials, chewable parts and manufacturer warnings that matter for pets.

Where the answers come from

We read manufacturer specifications, manuals and warranty terms, check retailer listings for current models and prices, and look at independent tests where they exist. Each guide lists its sources at the end with the date we checked them.

Research versus hands-on testing

Most guides are research-based comparisons. When we have tested a product ourselves, the guide says so and shows what we did. We never describe a test we did not run, and we do not rewrite customer reviews.

Images

Images are labelled: our own photos, charts drawn from real data, or illustrations. Illustrations are never used to show what a real product looks like.

Keeping guides current

Pet gear changes quickly. Every guide shows when it was last updated, and we revisit guides when models, prices or subscription terms change.
